Privacy Policy

Pixel Myth builds artificial intelligence systems for companies. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do with it.

It covers this website and the services we provide to our clients. It does not cover personal information that a client holds in their own systems and asks us to process on their behalf. In that situation the client decides how the information is used, and their own privacy notice applies.

Clients: people who work at companies that hire us, or that are considering it.

Candidates and contractors: people who apply to work with us or who deliver work through us.

Visitors: anyone who reads this website, subscribes to our monthly note, or writes to us.

Most of what we hold comes directly from you: an email you send us, a form you complete on this site, a call you take with us, or a contract we sign together.

Some of it comes from other places. We may look at a public professional profile, a company website, or a business directory before a first conversation. We may also receive your name and work email from a colleague who introduces you.

We collect a limited amount automatically when you visit this site, described under cookies and analytics below.

From clients and prospective clients: name, job title, employer, work email, work phone number if you give it, the content of our correspondence, and the commercial and billing details needed to run an engagement.

From candidates and contractors: the information in your application or profile, work history, references you point us to, and, where an engagement proceeds, the tax and payment details required to pay you.

From visitors: your email address if you subscribe to our monthly note, anything you choose to write to us, and basic technical information such as browser type, approximate region derived from your IP address, and which pages you opened.

We do not ask for sensitive categories of personal information, and we ask that you do not send them to us.

To answer you when you write to us, and to have the conversations that lead to an engagement.

To deliver, support and invoice the work we have agreed to do.

To evaluate people who want to work with us, and to pay them once they do.

To send our monthly note to people who asked for it.

To keep this website working, to understand in aggregate which pages people read, and to protect our systems against abuse.

To meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations, and to establish or defend legal claims where we have to.

We send our monthly note only to people who signed up for it. Every one of those emails carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately.

We may email a client contact about work we are already doing together, or about a proposal they asked for, without a separate subscription. You can tell us to stop at any time and we will.

We do not sell your contact details, and we do not rent our list to anyone.

This site uses the small number of cookies required to serve pages and remember your display preferences. We use privacy-preserving analytics to count page views in aggregate. We do not run advertising networks or cross-site tracking pixels on this site.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will keep working if you do.

Service providers who run parts of our operation for us: email and document hosting, cloud infrastructure, analytics, accounting, and payment processing. They act on our instructions and are bound by contract to protect what we give them.

Professional advisers, such as lawyers and accountants, when we need their advice.

Government bodies, regulators or courts, when the law requires it or when we need to protect our rights.

A buyer or successor, if our business or part of it is ever sold or reorganized. We would tell you if that changed how your information is handled.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We are based in the United States and our primary systems are hosted there. Some of our service providers operate in other countries, which means your information may be stored or accessed outside the United States.

When that happens we rely on the contractual protections our providers offer and, where a transfer mechanism is required by the law of your country, on the mechanism that law provides.

This site links to services we do not control. Once you follow one of those links, the privacy policy of the site you land on applies, not this one. We are not responsible for how those sites handle your information.

We encrypt data in transit and at rest, restrict internal access to the people who need it for their work, use multi-factor authentication on our accounts, and log administrative access to our systems.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal information and the law requires us to tell you, we will tell you without undue delay.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy of it, to correct it, to have it deleted, to limit how we use it, and to be free from discrimination for exercising any of these rights.

Where our use of your information depends on your consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time. Withdrawing it does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.

We will not charge you for a reasonable request, and we will respond within the timeframe the applicable law sets. Requests go to privacy@pixel-myth.com.

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended gives you the right to know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the sources it came from, the purposes we use it for, and the categories of third parties we disclose it to.

You may also request that we delete personal information we collected from you, and that we correct information that is inaccurate. We may decline a deletion request in the narrow situations the statute allows, for example where we still need the information to complete a transaction, to comply with a legal obligation, or to detect security incidents.

We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is nothing for you to opt out of on this site.

You may use an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf. We will ask for proof that you gave them permission, and we may ask you to verify your own identity before we act.

Client and engagement records: for the length of the engagement and then for as long as our tax, accounting and legal obligations require.

Prospective client correspondence: up to two years after our last exchange, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.

Candidate information: up to one year after a decision, so we can come back to you if something suitable appears, unless you ask us not to.

Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe.

When a retention period ends we delete the information or remove what identifies you from it.

Write to privacy@pixel-myth.com and tell us what you want us to do. You do not need to use any particular wording.

We may ask you for enough information to confirm who you are, so that we do not hand your data to somebody else. We will only use what you send us for that purpose.

This site and our services are meant for people acting in a professional capacity. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under sixteen. If you believe a child has sent us information, write to privacy@pixel-myth.com and we will delete it.

Questions, complaints and requests about this policy go to privacy@pixel-myth.com. A person reads it. For anything that is not about privacy, hello@pixel-myth.com is the better address.

This policy has been in effect since July 1, 2024. If we change it, we will post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use information we already hold about you, we will tell you directly.
